As of late July 2026 roughly 23 million people in England sit under hosepipe bans, with eight areas in prolonged dry weather and reservoirs classed as low. Over a single week, hands off flow restrictions on abstraction licences rose from 729 to 1,327, so anyone who draws their own water is being told to take less at exactly the moment they need it most.
For any operation that depends on water to run, a leisure centre, a food or drink line, a farm, a cooling system, that is a direct operational risk, not a seasonal inconvenience. The exposure is simple: the more of your water comes straight from a stretched public network or a restricted licence, the more of your operation is hostage to the weather.
What does designing in water resilience actually change?
